A definition of Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is arguably the single biggest aspect that you can – and should – focus on, to improve the quality and effectiveness of your work and personal life.

Being “Intellectually smart” without being “Emotionally smart” could lead to significantly detrimental effects on all aspects of your leadership and interactions in all areas of your life.

A lack of emotional intelligence means that you may struggle to understand and manage your own emotions, and you may struggle to recognize and understand the emotions of other people with whom you interact.

And this lack of understanding on your part may result in shallow relationships, defensiveness, poor communication, misunderstandings, an inability to handle conflict, frequent misunderstandings, emotional outbursts, and an inability to take accountability for your own actions.

Low EQ is characterized by ineffective behaviours such as poor listening skills, getting easily stressed, always blaming others, inability to handle criticism, always focusing on yourself, and lacking empathy and compassion.
